A wet and muddy visit to the Yorkshire Show this year! But I shouldn’t complain, at least I got to go.
The show being cancelled is a great shame, but I can’t say I’m surprised. I got back to the car soaking wet, covered in mud and relying on the help of a stranger to push my car out of the clogged field once it got stuck. I dread to think how muddy that nice man got but I must say Thank You!
The show is a big boost to the region’s economy so the effects of closing will be felt all around. The financial loss for the agricultural society is estimated to run to six figures and one exhibitor reckons on a loss of nearly £20,000 in set up costs and lost sales, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-18792794 for the full article.
On a more positive note I did get to meet some interesting people, catch up on the latest news and goings on at the NFU and I even got to brush a young highland cow called Samson, which made my day!
